History

Established in 1988, Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) emerged when three partners acquired the assets of Nickum and Spaulding Associates, Inc. (N&SA), a renowned Seattle naval architecture firm with a sixty-year legacy in top-notch marine design. As demand grew, so did the company. Our Seattle-based firm expanded into regions to better reach our customers where they are. Our project capabilities flourished: While becoming the preeminent ro-pax ferry design firm in the country, we developed industry-leading tugs, cargo vessels, workboats, infrastructure, and beyond.

We even evolved into an employee-owned company structure that gives every member of our team a voice in our future.

This pioneering spirit still fuels us today. We are leaders in decarbonization, alternative fuels, and cutting-edge design practices that help maritime transportation realize a future in harmony with nature. Like our customers and the world around us, we continue to evolve at record speed.
