yachts
EBDG's experience in the yacht market is specialized in that we work
with custom yacht builders to support the hull design and
development for their large scale steel and aluminum projects.
EBDG's shipyard support team uses 3-D modeling techniques and
database-driven software, which allows for automatic material lists
and spools sheet development. The model shown right includes all
equipment, structure, electrical, and mechanical systems. This
model also eliminates interference problems that are not easily
detectable from the traditional 2-D designing techniques. Below are
a few yacht projects on which EBDG has been involved.
236' Delta Yacht
EBDG designed the steel hull of this 236' yacht to comply with
Lloyd's Rules and lofted the more than 10,000 steel parts for Delta
Marine Industries. This is believed to be the largest personal
yacht built in the United States since 1936.
92' LeClerq Yacht
This 92' motor yacht designed by Jack Sarin and built by LeClercq
Marine Construction in Seattle, Washington. It has a composite
superstructure and an aluminum hull. Construction of the hull was
subcontracted to Kvichak Marine Industries who hired EBDG to
complete the structural detail design and lofting.
INEVITABLE
This is a 131' aluminum hull, twin-screw propulsion private yacht
built by Palmer Johnson under Lloyds regulations. EBDG was
responsible for engineering the ship's mechanical and electrical
design. This included all pertinent arrangement and detail drawings
as well as the necessary diagrams.
POTOMAC
Built in 1934 as a cutter for the U.S. Coast Guard, the POTOMAC
served for 10 years as a yacht for President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Today, it is berthed in Oakland, California, as a floating museum
and excursion vessel. As project engineer, EBDG President John
Waterhouse designed all mechanical systems, performed plan review
and generated a shipyard bid package. John performed extensive
historical research to guide renovation decisions and understand
some of the design compromises necessary to make the vessel as
historically accurate as possible, while meeting the current marine
regulations and museum function requirements.
