research vessels

The staff at EBDG has a long history of research vessel design and support experience. Our ability to design a quality vessel, while meeting project schedules and objectives, has made us a leader in the industry. We are frequently called upon to provide upgrade and support services and have worked with research vessel operators around the world. It is because of our extensive experience and thorough approach that EBDG has been asked to work with shipyards to provide detail structural design and lofting services. From paper to steel, we offer comprehensive support for the research vessel community.

This experience and our reputation as a leader in small research vessel design led to a request in 1999 by the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) for several key staff members to each write a chapter for their on-line publication "UNOLS Small Research Vessel Compendium."  This document can be viewed at http://www.unols.org/SBCompendium.

Some of our sample projects include:

  • 76' R/V CONNECTICUT – Contract design of this core sampling, biological studies, and submersible support vessel for the University of Connecticut's Marine Sciences Institute
