barges

The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 mandated that the oil transportation industry phase out single-hulled tank vessels. All barges will have to be double-hulled by the year 2015. The team at Elliott Bay Design Group has barge designs to cover the range of products and markets handled by coastal and ocean-going barges.

We have developed our designs to provide exceptional hydrodynamic performance, efficient structural design, balanced tank and improved maintenance. Our designs can be modified to suit specific operational requirements including different capacities, dimensional constraints, cargo types and pumping configurations. We have stock designs ranging in size from 17,000 to 113,000 barrels.

The following is a small sampling of our recent barge design portfolio

  • Contract design for two 33,000-barrel heated asphalt barges for Penn Maritime, built at Conrad Industries
  • Design and lofting support for the first of three Heavy Lift 455 Series flat deck barges for Crowley Marine Services, the barge MARTY J was launched in April 2007
  • Production support and lofting services for Bollinger Marine Fabricators for a series of manned inland tank barges for K-Sea Transportation
  • Contract design and an extensive model basin testing program for 135'-5" tug combined with a 543'-8" barge (ATB) for Sause Bros., designed specifically for ocean-going service in the North Pacific petroleum products trade
  • Detail design, production support and lofting for a 50,000-barrel tank barge built by Bollinger Marine Fabricators for Moran Towing
  • Production support and lofting services for Bollinger Marine Fabricators for two manned inland tank barges for Reinauer Transportation
  • Production support and lofting services for 340' deck barge built by U.S. Barge for Young Brothers
Lofting of a hopper barge built by Gunderson Marine
  • Production support and lofting of a deck cargo barge built by Gunderson Marine for Sause Bros. Ocean Towing
  • Contract design for 38,500-barrel and 31,500-barrel tank barges for Harley Marine Services
  • Production support and lofting services for two tank barges built by Bollinger Marine Fabricators for Progressive Barge Lines
