GLOBAL PIONEER Upgrade

EBDG was contracted by Global Industries, Ltd. to perform modification engineering for the GLOBAL PIONEER, a dynamically positioned semi-submersible SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) MSV (Multi-Service Vessel) used for motion sensitive, deepwater offshore oil and gas support services. This highly complex vessel represents the largest commercially operating U.S. flag SWATH vessel. EBDG was tasked to prepare a contract design package and specifications to establish suitable buoyancy and system upgrades. The project goals: improve payload and powering redundancy capabilities of the vessel.

EBDG performed complex hydrodynamic and finite element analysis and witnessed model testing at the Danish Maritime Institute. Extensive resistance and station-keeping studies were also performed to ensure that the vessel provided optimal performance. Modifications included the addition of a fourth genset with associated machinery and 150 LT of hull steel to substantially increase the deck payload from 150 to 400 LT. EBDG also provided construction support including drydocking review, shipyard interfacing, and dock and sea trials testing procedures and supervision.
