Scope of Work - In 1998, Elliott Bay
Design Group was contracted by SBM-IMODCO to provide detailed
engineering support services for the detailed structural design and
analysis of a 275K DWT Floating Production Storage and Offloading
vessel, lower, and middle internal bow turret. The FPSO VI was
converted from an existing Very Large Crude Carrier and installed in
2,640 feet of water in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil. A 10-point
chain-polyester rope-chain mooring system and 45 oil production flow
lines are supported by the 250' tall turret structure installed in
the bow, enabling the FPSO to weathervane in heavy weather. This
produces tremendous loads on the turret due to the water depth and
required state-of-the-art technology to optimize the design. The
detailed structural design and advanced finite element analysis was
subsequently reviewed and approved by the American Bureau of
Shipping.
